Privacy Policy
Effective 2 May 2026
This is the privacy policy for Wine Cloud, a mobile application ("we", "us", "our"). It explains, in plain English, what data the app handles, what we do with it, and what we don't.
If you have any questions, contact us at:
Wine Cloud is operated from the United Kingdom. For any privacy-related question, contact Support@winecloud.co.uk.
At a glance
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not track you. There are no analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with marketers.
- Photos and text you submit for pairing recommendations are sent to our server, processed by an AI partner (Anthropic), and discarded. Nothing is saved with your name on it.
- Saved pairings live on your device only.
What we collect
We collect only what's needed to give you a pairing.
1. The text you type into Wine Cloud — the name of a dish, a wine, or an event. This is sent to our server only when you tap the "Find my pairing" button. It is used solely to generate a pairing response and is not retained in identifiable form.
2. Photos you provide for scanning — when you scan a menu, photograph a dish, or capture a wine label, the photo is sent to our server, processed by our AI partner (Anthropic), and discarded once the pairing has been returned. We do not store your photos. We do not use them for training. We do not pass them to anyone other than the AI partner described above.
3. Saved pairings — when you tap "save" on a pairing, the pairing is stored on your device only (in iOS local storage). We do not have a copy. If you delete the app, your saved pairings are deleted with it.
That's the full list.
What we don't collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account information. There is no account.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or any tracking IDs.
- We do not collect health, financial, or contact information.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, motion sensors, Bluetooth, or HomeKit.
Permissions we ask for
- Photos — only when you tap "Choose from library" to scan a menu, dish, or wine label. The selected photo is sent to our server for that single pairing request and discarded.
- Camera — only when you tap "Take photo." The captured photo is sent to our server for that single pairing request and discarded. We do not record video or audio.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Wine Cloud. The app continues to work in text-only mode without them.
Who processes your data
Our pairing recommendations are powered by Anthropic, an AI provider. When you ask Wine Cloud for a pairing, the text or photo you submitted is sent to Anthropic's API for inference. Anthropic processes the request and returns the recommendation. Per Anthropic's commercial terms, customer inputs sent to its API are not used to train models.
Our application server is hosted on Railway. Railway processes incoming requests in transit. Neither we nor Railway retain logs of your photo or text content beyond what is needed to operate the service.
We do not use any other third-party processors — no analytics provider, no advertising network, no crash-reporting service, no marketing platform.
Data security
- All traffic between the Wine Cloud app and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / TLS).
- Photos and text are processed in memory and not written to durable storage on our server.
- We do not maintain a user database. There is nothing to leak.
Children's privacy
Wine Cloud is rated 17+ in the App Store because it deals with wine, an alcoholic beverage. The app is not intended for and is not directed at users under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights (UK / EU residents)
Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or request data portability.
Because Wine Cloud does not retain identifiable personal data after a pairing is returned, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf — your saved pairings live on your device and you can delete them yourself by removing the app or clearing its storage in iOS Settings.
If you believe we hold data about you, or you have any other privacy question, contact us at Support@winecloud.co.uk and we will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how Wine Cloud handles data, we will update this policy and revise the Effective date at the top. Substantive changes will be flagged in the next app update's "What's New" notes.
